Mat describes his style to consist of sharp, intricate, detailed and hard hitting movements. His inspirations include Pat Cruz, Jeka Jane, Jun Quemadoo and his family-Evolution Movement.

About Alex:
I have had a passion for dance since the early years of middle school from watching videos of Mr. Wiggle’s accomplishments. I’ve been dancing for about 8 years now. I’ve been able to teach myself the basics without taking classes until attending Contra Costa College. My passion has grown to a point where i want to teach and share my passion with the community.

It has been about 8 months since we have released a new set. Why so long you ask? We believe that a strong team is strong for the fact that a team dances as a team. A strong team isn’t just composed of 2 or 3 strong dancers and everyone is decent. We wanted to train our new team so that everyone can be on the same level, if not close to it.
Throughout those 8 months we trained, and trained and trained. We practiced grooves, we conditioned our bodies and worked out, we had choreo homework assignments, we had freestyle sessions to get use to dancing freely and comfortably in front of each other, we learned new pieces and practiced them till we could do it in our sleep, - but most importantly we did everything as TEAM. We didn’t have a core group, we didn’t have any training group, we never left anyone behind and everyone was given a fair opportunity.
It’s funny how things work out doesn’t it? We didn’t take every performance that came our way. As I said before we collaborated on this set as a TEAM. We waited until we knew as a TEAM that we were ready to perform Keywords READY and PERFORM. We wanted to come out strong and after 3 years of challenge and change, I believe we did just that. We worked hard for the last 8 months and it most definitely paid off! Everyone had improved and grown so much since the first day of practice! For most of them it was their first dance group and even their first ever time performing. I am extremely proud of this team and am confident that it doesn’t end here!
Thank you Evo_Mo for all your hard work and dedication and for pushing yourselves every practice! It only goes up from here!

Honestly, people throw around the word “humble” like nothing. I feel like most people feel compelled to say that just cause they dance but in reality, they know nothing about being humble because to them the dance community is one big competition to see whose the best.
What happened to just dancing because you love it? Not to prove you’re the best at it, because honestly, there’s no such thing as a perfect dancer.

As I was looking back at the “Timeline” feature on Evolution Movement’s Facebook Page, I looked at all the posts from when we first started the page back in May of 2010.
A lot has happened between then and now. At first I was sad, but then I realized how happy I am now and how much Evolution Movement has grown from then. I’m actually really grateful to go through all the ups and downs and the drama because it taught me a lot. I learned more about myself not just with dance, but in life. I learned about my strengths, weaknesses, fears, but most importantly my goals. I learned that when things knock me down, the best thing to do is get right up and keep going. And when some things just keep knocking you down and you feel like you’re doing things alone, I learned there’s nothing wrong with having people helping you back up. There has been so much that has gone on and I’ve learned so much in the last two years that sometimes I even forget where the joy and chaos even started.
I know that without my experiences with For the Cause (FTC), Expressive Doubt San Francisco, Groove Against the Machine, Aftermath, and of course Evolution Movement I would not be the person and dancer I am today. In the last four years that I have been dancing between companies I have never forgotten where I had come from.
So thank you to everyone who made me who I am today:
